Attraction of the region: a cuisine celebrated almost every day!
Dear food lovers, hello! Today we will continue our culinary tour of Spain in Galicia (Galicia). Close to Portugal this region relies on products different from others, but all of which have one thing in common, quality!
Indeed, Galicia is a region known for providing very qualitative cuisine, and let’s not talk about cooks! Chefs recognized all over the world for their dishes as good as each other. Doesn’t that make you want to taste it? Or better? To learn how to cook all these good dishes directly with them directly? We’ll show you some Galician specialties that you can learn at a gastronomic internship in Galicia!!
By dint of going around Spain, if you have read our previous articles, you now know that tapas are a classic of Spanish cuisine and those, regardless of the region. Here we will introduce you to the Galician octopus, called there “Polbo a fera”. Almost symbolic dish of this region you will not be able to get there without being given a taste! Cooked in a copper pot, the octopus is served with olive oil and coarse salt, sprinkled with chilli. We taste it gusually accompanied by red wine and bread for an even more authentic experience.
This delicious dish is also celebrated during the octopus festival, now recognized as a tourist event, where nearly 50,000kg of octopus is consumed for more than 100,000 participants. So if you’re planning a trip to Galicia soon or would like to do your internship here, we hope for you that you like the octopus.
Another very good specialty of the region: empanadas! Known from all over the world, the famous meat-stuffed slippers are native to Galicia. Initially they are made with bread dough, however, it is more and more common to use puff pastry for their preparation. If you decide to do an internship in Galicia in order to learn more about this cuisine, you will necessarily learn how to cook them. Usually chicken and mushrooms, it now turns away in all forms with fish, meat or vegetables. Enough to fill even the most difficult of you!
Finally our favorite part,
(but you already knew
), today we will present a well-known cake: the Tarta de Santiago. A mixture of ground almonds, sugar and eggs, this delicious cake takes its name from the Order of Santiago. What gives it a unique look is the decoration on top. Made with icing sugar we recognize the cross of Santiago in the center. A cake with a bonet at the same time full of history. Most of the time accompanied by the traditional coffee con leche, it is the perfect cake for the merienda (the snack)! We put you a link to a recipe right here, for the foolhardy who would like to reproduce it at home to taste it.
