Seville is the most populous city in Andalusia. Its climate, its people and its cultural richness make it the most chosen destination for many tourists. It is the third most visited Spanish capital, behind Madrid and Barcelona. Its old town is the third largest in Europe. Through the monuments we can relive the entire history of the city. There are numerous attractions and must-have places that you have to see and visit once in your life. And why not, also do your internships and make your Erasmus experience here. So that you can better intend the colors of Seville, I show you the main attractions of the city.
Places to visit
The Royal Alcazar of Seville
The Royal Alcazar of Seville is a palace in which eleven centuries of history can be observed: the Middle Ages, Islamic art and the rest of the Castilian conquest are palpable in the architecture of this palace. Renaissance and Baroque details can also be seen. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1987, it is part of the royal residence, one of the oldest in Europe.
Spanish Steps
It was declared of cultural interest and historical heritage of Spain. It encompasses a lot of history in all its elements. Among the many films surrounded in this magnificent square are Star Wars-Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
The Tower of Gold
It is located to the left of the Guadalquivir River. The first part of its construction was carried out in 1920 and currently houses the sevillenaval museum. It still maintains its historical character. This tower is so named because it was full of white tiles and when the rays of the sun reflected on them it gave the feeling to those who arrived by the Guadalquivir River that was made of gold.
Maria Luisa Park
It is a historical park, one of the first areas of Seville, has become one of its green lungs. The perfect place to enjoy nature and take a walk in one of the most special places in Seville.
As the song says, Seville has a special color, and the most famous neighborhood fully demonstrates it. We’re talking about the Santa Cruz neighborhood. In the morning you can walk and discover all the most famous corners and at night enjoy bars and all the people who animate the neighborhood.
Culture
The Flamenco
It is surely one of the most important cultural and popular aspects of the city. Its origins are related to the arrival of the gypsies in Seville. That’s why it’s hard to talk about Flamenco and not talk about Seville. Today flamenco in Seville takes place in flamenco tables, theaters and festivals but it all started when families met and danced together. The most important feature of flamenco is the ability to transmit emotions. His music is full of love, anguish, pain, passion and joy. That’s why I recommend you see a flamenco show in your life.
The neighborhood of Triana is by the way the birthplace of flamenco. Legend has it that the goddess Astarté fleeing the persecution of Hercules, the mythological founder of Seville, took refuge on the bank of the Guadalquivir River, founding the neighborhood of Triana. Although there are many stories about its foundation, the truth is that the neighborhood has always been associated with the Roma people, since much of the population lived there, that is why it is said that Triana is the cradle of Flamenco. If we also go into its streets, we can contemplate the beautiful houses of neighbors, the flamenco dance academies, the taverns and we get imbued with the daily life of the neighborhood.
In addition to being a beautiful city full of life, Seville also has a spectacular gastronomic culture. Pavia soldiers are delicious strips of desarated cod battered with flour dough, saffron, yeast and hot salt water. Grilled squid, one of the typical seville food worth a try. The bull’s tail with onion, oil and wine. Gazpacho andalúz is nothing more and nothing less than a delicious cold tomato soup, delicious and rich with vitamins. Tomato cod is a very good option, if you pass through Seville you don’t have to stop trying it.
In Seville you have much to see, and there is no shortage of opportunities to work, study, practice, experiences in this wonderful city full of opportunities and colors.
