Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Would you like to see some color, some shine? You won’t be disappointed when you find yourself in front of the incredible spectacle that is Tenerife’s Carnival. You will have the opportunity to see this carnival from the first of March to the 19th of February in the streets of this city of the Canary Islands. Unrestricted, a magical moment, you will be transported to another world. For joy, magic and freedom will parade through the streets of Tenerife, you can’t miss it!
One of the highlights of this celebration is the election of the Queen of the Festivities, which usually takes place on the Wednesday of the first week of the festivities. The participating candidates parade on a 1200 square meter stage, decorated with huge costumes of incredible fantasy that can weigh more than a hundred kilos. After this election, the “Cabalgata” is celebrated on Friday, at which time the streets are invaded by ten musical groups. It’s party time for hours!
The climax of this celebration is carnival Tuesday: the “Coso”. The Coso is a great parade of floats that every year impresses a lot, is followed by the funeral of the sardine: announcer of the party. Let’s not spoil the surprise, come and see for yourself what this huge event has to offer. Don’t wait any longer! This destination is very popular during the carnival period, so get ready. Carnival of Galicia
Each country has its own culture and each city has its own culture. The Galician people have their own traditions, their own culture, which obviously makes their carnivals different from the others. The carnival is known as “Entroido”, mainly known in cities such as Verín, Ourense, Vigo, Pontevedra and A Coruña.
It is a mixture of Christian traditions and pagan customs. “Entroids” are groups of people who run in disguise. They usually wear hats depicting animals and bells on their buttocks that ring with every move.
Don’t stay in the middle of the road, you risk being hit by sticks or vegetables! A little humor, don’t hurt yourself, come and join us!
Sitges Carnival
To finish in this color panel, let’s talk about the Sitges Carnival. It takes place in a village in Catalonia, it is a must! Every year, this small town receives more than 250,000 visitors for its carnival. Its popularity is mainly due to the reputation of the city, it is considered one of the most cheerful friendly cities in Spain. Its bars and clubs are a great tourist attraction! They will be surrounded by color, joy and good humor. If you want to party, dance, sing until you lose your voice, come! You won’t regret it!
Carnival of Cadiz
Cadiz in Andalusia is known for its sunny beaches and high-end surfing. This provincial capital has some historical ties to Italy, so its famous carnival mimics that of Italians. Originality and fun are the key words. The whole city lends itself to playing, both children and adults dress up. The opening of the festival is accompanied by Joaquín Sabina, one of Spain’s favourite singers.
They usually take place in the Plaza de Las Flores. Well, mandatory, no, but it’s an opportunity for you to vent, show off your best costume and be proud of it. The “Great Horseback Riding” takes place on the first Sunday, along the avenue of entrance of the city and that gathers tens of thousands of people. There is a second that is “La Cabalgata del Humor” in the historic center, which takes place during the last weekend of the festivities. Groups of friends, families and co-workers compete with “official” groups with good humor and laughter.
