Internship 2022 : What are the conditions and advantages of doing an internship in Spain with Animafest?

An internship abroad is an important step in most curricula and represents a unique experience that is highly valued on your CV. You will be able to discover new cultures and meet new people.

However, although Spain is a country familiar with the concept of internships, there are some conditions that must be met.

First of all, there are two possibilities for internships:

internshipBeca de prácticas, which are internships carried out as part of a university or vocational training course, and Contrato laboral de prácticas, which are internships carried out once your university or vocational degree has been validated.
Therefore, they are not part of your course, but represent an optional experience. Their duration must be between 6 months and 2 years.

While the first option is carried out within the framework of an internship agreement, the second is a real employment contract.
Let’s take a look at the main differences between these two types of contract.

If you are doing an internship under an agreement, you will sign an “Internship Grant” with the host company, which will validate your professional experience as part of your course.

If you are doing an internship after finishing your studies, during a gap year, or any other internship outside your course, you can sign an “Internship employment contract”.
This gives rise to more advantageous salary conditions and makes you a full employee of the company. However, you must meet the following requirements:

– Be between 18 and 30 years old

– You must have completed a higher education diploma

– You must have obtained this diploma less than 5 years before the start of the training period.

In both cases, the purpose of these contracts is to enable you to train and enter the world of work. Therefore, you must be welcomed and trained accordingly once you arrive in the company.

Remuneration of an internship in Spain

The “Becas de práctica” are internships under an agreement without any particularinternship regulation as to the minimum remuneration granted to the intern.
Therefore, it is up to the company to define the compensation it is willing to pay.

However, some educational institutions in Spain include a minimum remuneration in the internship agreement to avoid unpaid internships.

The “Contratos liberales de prácticas” are regulated and offer a progressive minimum remuneration. Thus, you cannot receive less than 60% of the minimum wage in the first year and 75% of the minimum wage in the second year.
