The Canary Islands, an archipelago off the coast of Morocco, is one of the most biodiverse areas in the world. With a wide range of landscapes, from dunes to forests, starry skies and stretches of black, white, wild or tourist beaches. All this while having year-round sunshine. It’s a dream come true, isn’t it? And if I told you that you could go live in the archipelago for 3 to 6 months, would you want to buy tickets?

The TEIDE volcano

internshipThe must-see in Tenerife is the Teide volcano. The highest peak in Spain, with its 3,718 meters of altitude, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For astronomy lovers, a visit to the Teide Observatory is a must. Located in the volcano’s park, the Teide Observatory offers tours open to the public.

The Canary Islands are one of the best places in the world to observe the sky.

This observatory has the best telescopes in Europe. This led to the discovery of the first dwarf planet, called Teide 1!

The beaches

Black sand beach, fine sand beach, wild coves, you will find all kinds of beaches in Tenerife. Benijo beach, near Santa Cruz, will offer you a great landscape with its black sand.

Not far from this beach, you will find 2 other volcanic beaches: the beach of Almaciga and the beach of Roque de las Bodegas.

To continue on the volcanic beaches, the beach of El Bollullo in Puerto De La Cruz is known to be one of the most beautiful of the island.

Teresitas Beach is of fine yellow sand. It is imported from the Sahara.

Playa de los Guíos offers a beautiful view of the cliffs of Los Gigantes, the true symbol of the island of Tenerife.

There is no shortage of beaches, from the wildest to the most touristy, you are sure to find a place to enjoy them.

Santa Cruz Carnival

Every year, Santa Cruz celebrates its carnival. And the locals do not pretend, as this tradition has been declared “Fiesta of International Tourist Interest” and even appears in the Guinness Book of Records.

It is an event not to be missed.

 

 Puerto de la Cruz

If at first glance Puerto de la Cruz seems touristy with its huge complexes, you have to go to the heart of the city to discover its treasures. Colorful streets, a botanical garden or relax in Lake Martiánez. This artificial saltwater lake is a perfect place to relax with its 6 pools and lagoon. The swimming area in the sea is complicated in this place. Lake Martiánez allows you to bathe in total tranquility.

Dolphin watching

The southwest coast of the island is the best place to see dolphins in Tenerife, as this is where most of the cetacean populations are concentrated.

Dolphins can be seen all year round, and the species vary according to the season. It is possible to see whales during the winter months and in spring.

Visit to San Cristóbal de La Laguna

The city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in December 1999. Under its colonial airs, San Cristóbal is an open-air museum with its majestic cathedral, its numerous churches and its town hall. You can stroll along San Agustin street to see the old stately homes and mansions. You can also visit the Casa Salazar, in the Canarian Baroque style, which is open to the public.

Siam Park, the water park

internshipThe water park Siam Park offers a slide that ends under an aquarium with sharks and manta rays. This is one of several attractions for thrill-seekers. You can also surf one of the world’s largest man-made waves or shop at the Floating Market.

Loro Parque

Loro Parque is a zoo located on the outskirts of Puerto de la Cruz.  It covers an area of 13.5 hectares and has about 800 animals. It includes one of the four dolphinariums of the archipelago, where bottlenose dolphins are presented. It is also one of two dolphinariums in Europe featuring killer whales. Its animal collection also includes gorillas and chimpanzees. It is one of the few places where the last Spix’s macaws, a species almost extinct in the wild, are kept.

Surfing in Tenerife

Tenerife offers you a surf spot every ten minutes. Don’t like a wave? No problem. Move on to the next one. You can choose between sandy bottoms, rocky bottoms, volcanic reefs…. There’s a great atmosphere in the water. Plus, you can surf all year round! The perfect island for surfing, right?
