Cooking profession in general
Cooking is usually a team effort. It consists of making starters, main courses and desserts for customers. The cook’s tasks may vary depending on several things, such as the structure in which he or she works, or the level of responsibility.
In general, the main missions are as follows: preparing and preparing a dish, choosing the right products, cooking the food, making sure that the plates are well presented, cleaning the kitchen at the end of the service, and above all respecting the standards of hygiene and food safety.
The cook therefore has a very important role in the smooth running of a restaurant, he has big responsibilities. But it is a job that is not repetitive because he has to manage several things at once and the dishes can change, which makes this job very interesting. So if you have an artistic sense, you are ready to adapt to different types of customers, you are organized and you like teamwork, come and do a cooking course!
Gastronomy in Ibiza (specialities)
Before doing a cooking course in Ibiza, it is best to get to know some typical dishes of the island. To begin with, its gastronomy is mainly based on fish and seafood. So I will present you a starter, a main course and a typical dessert, as if we were in a restaurant. So I’m going to present you a starter, a main course and a typical dessert, as if we were in a restaurant.
As a starter, I propose to taste the famous pa amb Oli, pieces of bread bathed in oil and rubbed with garlic that we spread with a tomato-based sauce. As a main course, I propose a local speciality, one of the most famous of the island called bullit de peix (which could be translated as “fish stew”).
This dish consists of several rock fish such as scorpion fish or grouper, accompanied by potatoes. The juice from the preparation is then used to make the rice that accompanies the bullit, which, depending on the restaurant, is called “caldoso” or “paella”. This is a dish that is a must when leaving Ibiza.
Finally something sweet, and I named as dessert the Flaó, a cheesecake with mint and sugar. What could be better than to finish your meal with the most famous dessert of the island. For those who wish, there is the so-called Caleta coffee, coffee served hot with liqueur, cinnamon and lemon peel.
Activities / outings
Doing an internship in Ibiza also means taking advantage of the rest time to do some activities and go out to clear your head a bit, so I will propose here some activities to do during your free time on the island. For example, you can cycle around the island along the most beautiful beaches of the coast, there are also several nice walks to do in the area. You can also go horseback riding, or do all kinds of water sports such as scuba diving, parasailing, jet-skiing and many others.
It is also possible to go quad biking or buggy riding in the most preserved places of Ibiza. And finally, of course, one of Ibiza’s unmissable activities, partying. The island is very well known for parties in bars and discos. As you can see, if you want to enjoy your free time in Ibiza, there is plenty to do! And above all, there is something for everyone!
