Why do a reception internship in Barcelona?
Barcelona is commonly considered one of the European cities that seduce and attract millions of international travellers every year. The richness of its local culture and heritage, the plurality of its tourist activities, the ideal climate both in summer and during the rest of the year and the beauty of its heavenly beaches are all reasons that attract tourists to the capital of Catalonia.
Here is a list of some of the activities you will be able to do during your reception internship in Barcelona.
In order to meet the tourist demand, the city is full of tourist establishments such as hotels and campsites that all year round welcome the impressive flow of foreign tourists. In fact, the need for tourist staff is always growing, and students looking for a hotel reception internship are more than likely to find a position that matches their expectations in Barcelona.
On the other hand, a reception internship in Barcelona is an opportunity to acquire new skills that are essential for all tourism training courses, such as improving your Spanish language skills (and why not try your hand at Catalan for the more multilingual among you!), developing your sense of service and sales, acquiring the technical skills specific to this sector and sharpening your personal skills such as rigour, organisation and professionalism.
These skills will be essential for you to pursue or validate your training in the field of tourism, and will undoubtedly be required by your future employer.
What are the missions of the receptionist intern?
The quality of the welcome is essential to promote the good brand image of the Hotel or of the tourist establishment. The receptionist is the first contact the client will have when entering the hotel, so it is important to be well presented, friendly and professional. The receptionist intern will therefore be responsible for registering customers on their arrival, managing the administrative procedures relating to customer reception, handing over the keys, presenting the hotel’s own services, etc.
Management of reservations and invoicing: on the other hand, the intern in reception will have to plan future reservations which are communicated to him by email, telephone or online. This mission will require a good management of the availability of rooms and a good knowledge of the computer tools used by the company. The trainee may also be required to analyse the occupancy rate of the establishment and communicate it to the Manager. He/she will also be responsible for invoicing customers at the time of their departure.
Promotion of tourist activities: The clients of the tourist establishments are looking for the best possible stay, and to discover cultural sites and local gastronomy. Your role is also to accompany them during their stay by suggesting places to visit in the city and/or the region and informing them of the activities offered by the hotel (excursions, restaurant). Thus, you will also have the role of tourist adviser.
